Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil

(Atlanta, GA)  Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil” on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 6:30pm-8pm at The SunTrust Club at Turner Field. The vigil is part of LCA’s nationwide Shine-a-Light campaign to bring awareness to lung cancer and provide hope, compassion and support to those touched by lung cancer.

“It’s a bitter-sweet honor to be a part of this beautiful event,” says Hendrix. “Lung cancer has touched my family, so I’ve learned more about this disease than I ever imagined. It’s vital that people know about its ravaging affects. There should be no more stigma, because there are definitely no biases with this terrible disease.”

Elaine Hendrix will be co-emceeing the vigil along with Co-Founder of Team Draft and former Atlanta Falcon Chris Draft, whose wife lost her battle to lung cancer just one short month after their marriage. The program includes speakers Dr. Bill Mayfield from WellStar and Dr. Suresh Ramalingam from Emory Healthcare, and comments from lung cancer survivors and caregivers. An art display from Lilly Oncology on Canvas, a “Face of Lung Cancer” poster display and information from WellStar, Northside Hospital and others will be on site as well. Light refreshments will be available.

Lung cancer is the second leading cause of death in the US and claims more lives annually than breast, prostrate and colon cancers combined. Founded in 1995, Lung Cancer Alliance is the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing support and advocacy for people living with or at risk for the disease. LCA’s mission is to end injustice and save lives through an alliance of advocacy, education and support. Its vision is to reduce lung cancer mortality by at least 50% by 2020.

There is no charge to attend the vigil. The SunTrust Club is behind home plate at Turner Field located at 755 Hank Aaron Drive, Atlanta, GA 30315. Parking is free in the “Green Lot” across from the major entrance to Turner Field. Security and staff will be on hand. Those attending are encouraged to arrive early – gates open at 5:30pm
