Foundation Plans Host of Events for Super Bowl Week

MIAMI, FL – Continuing the work they started on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Chris Draft Family Foundation will be hosting several events during Super Bowl week in Miami in conjunction with local and national organizations. Draft will spend time reading to local schools from his new children’s book, discussing the hit movie the Blind Side with local student leaders and participating in fitness lessons with students and parents.

The Foundation will kick off Super Bowl week in two Miami-Dade Public Schools on February 4, in partnership with the NFL Players Association, NFL Play 60 and National PTA. Draft will read to the students in an effort to launch his new book, “Do You Want to Play Catch?”, which promotes exercise and sends a message of teamwork and communication to both parents and their children. Draft will start the day by reading at the Lauderdale Manors Elementary School in Ft. Lauderdale (1400 NW 14th Ct., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33311) from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Draft will then move on and read to children at the Carol City Elementary School in Miami Gardens (4375 NW 173rd Drive, Miami Gardens, FL 33056) from 11:00 a.m. – Noon.

That evening, the Foundation’s focus will switch to fitness as they partner with the National PTA and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation for a “Fitness Blitz.” Sixty students and 60 parents from the Miami-Dade Public Schools will attend an indoor fitness event powered by HOPSports at Coral Gables Senior High School (450 Bird Street, Coral Gables, FL 33146) from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Parents will receive a copy of “Be Well,” a book of health stories from mothers created through a partnership with the William J. Clinton Foundation and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.

On Friday, February 5, the Foundation will partner with United We Serve to host “A Discussion and a Movie: The Blind Side” at the AMC Mall of the Americas (7795 West Flagler, Miami, FL 33144) from 9:00 a.m. – Noon. Student-leaders from the Miami-Dade County Schools will be invited to a private showing of Academy Award Best Picture Nominee “The Blind Side.” Following the movie, Draft will lead a discussion of the film, highlighting the theme of key character traits throughout the movie. After the event, each student will be asked to participate in an essay contest, with the winners getting the opportunity to have dinner with Draft.

To cap the weekend, Draft will be spending time signing copies of “Do You Want to Play Catch?” at two Books & Books locations in the Miami area. On Friday, February 5, Draft will participate in a book signing at 6:00 p.m. at Books & Books in Coral Gables (265 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables, FL 33134). He will follow that up with another signing on Saturday, February 6, at Books & Books in Bal Harbour (9700 Colins Ave, Suite #258, Bal Harbour, FL 33154) at 2:30 p.m.
