Andrew J. - "The Blind Side" Miami

We as people grow up with role models. A role model can be someone in your family, in your school, in your community, or even someone you've never met such as a famous athletes or actors who demonstrate traits we want to see in ourselves. The movie The Blind Side describes the overwhelming amount of struggles a young man had to overcome and how the help of someone, or better yet a family, turned out to be instrumental in his own success, throughout the movie there were so many positive character traits portrayed, it wasn't a surprise the young man overcame his obstacles and made it big. Such traits like devotion, relentlessness, ingenuity, and optimism, and most of the all, the 3 character traits that were most shown throughout the movie were love, compassion, and togetherness.

Not only does the person who has been most instrumental in my success demonstrate all of the character traits mentioned above, but oh so many more. The one person who I believe has been the most instrumental in my success thus far is my mother. My mother is a woman who does not understand the idea of sitting down and being quiet, not fighting for what is right and most of all blending in. My mother is a woman with strong objectives and won’t stop ‘till she gets what she wants. I believe this trait is called assertiveness. She always treats people with respect, when they deserve it that is, and she always remembers to say please and thank you. I believe this trait it called courtesy. My mother is also someone who never stops learning. She is constantly taking on new challenges and obstacles in order to increase the knowledge she already possesses and to help herself grow more as a whole. She’s always getting better and always making a change.

The most important of all these traits she possesses that has been most instrumental in my success has been her self confidence. When no one else was there for her, she’s always been there to support herself.

She has taught me, whether or not she knows it, is just because no one patted you on the back doesn't mean you didn't do a good job. There won't always be a high five or a round of applause. Sometimes you have to succeed for yourself and as long as you feel in your heart you succeeded whether it be win, lose or draw, you can never lose. This alone is why I believe I have never failed. Everything I have done as been a success in my eyes. I know I haven't won every gold medal I could have or received that A on the test I was just short of, but because I know who I am and what I am capable of accomplishing, nothing will ever stop me from

getting what I want. No Blindside or surprise obstacle will never slow me down or stop me from reaching my goals, and even if that means I don't receive a accolade or pat on the back, I always take my pride and sense of accomplishment with me and turn around for a quick second and remember to thank my mother. I believe this trait is called courtesy.
