Tolbora L. - "The Blind Side" Miami

Never has a movie impacted me so deeply as much as The Blind Side did. I was impacted not only emotionally, but also personally. There was one important scene in the movie that triggered the memories of my past and brought a sensation of nostalgia all over my body, Michael Oher's life was changed the night Leigh Anne Tuohy decided to engage in a simple act of kindness. After watching the movie, I realized my life was changed too by a simple act of kindness.

As a child, I felt the pains of poverty. I remember living in a small, rundown apartment with my morn and brother. My morn always had a difficult time trying to provide for two kids on her own. Every day she struggled trying to make ends meet. We never had an abundance of food, and at times we even had no electricity. Eventually, the little that she could provide for my brother and I was not enough, and we were evicted out of our apartment. With no place to go, welived in my mom's car in front of a restaurant for a couple of days. Every day seemed longer that the last and the pain of hunger never ceased to exist, I prayed every night asking god for a way out, but everyday was the same: no food, no home, and no place to go. Then one sunny afternoon, I heard a knock on the window. It was the restaurant owner and she asked if we wanted to come inside. We all looked at each other and knew the answer to that one. She gave us a buffet of hot dogs and fries and let my mom use her phone. With her help, my mother was able to get into contact with my grandma and before we knew it, we were on our way to live with our family.

The Blind Side impacted me tremendously, because I was able to relate to Michael Oher's story. It made me realize that an act of kindness can change someone's life. If Leigh Anne Tuohy never had the courage to stop and help out a stranger, Michael Oher probably would not have experienced the kind of success he has attained today. It never hurts to lend a helping hand, and who knows, you may one day discover that person you helped ended up in the NFL.
